About Us

The South Drive Residents Association Ltd (SDRA) is a company limited by guarantee, a special type of company that has members instead of shareholders. It was established in 2002, replacing the pre-existing unincorporated association. Only homeowners of South Drive and South Close who pay an annual subscription can be members of the SDRA, and membership automatically ceases when the property is sold.

The main purposes of the SDRA are to:

  • maintain the South Drive road for the benefit of all residents of South Drive and South Close and those using the road;

  • protect the area from adverse development by, if necessary, enforcing the restrictive covenants applicable on all properties in South Drive and South Close;

  • arrange social events for the benefit of all subscribers to the SDRA.

The SDRA owns the freehold title to South Drive road and roundabout, which it maintains on behalf of subscribing residents of South Drive and South Close.

The SDRA also owns the freehold title to the verges on South Drive but each resident is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the verges outside their properties.

The liability of an SDRA member is limited to £1, making the SDRA a beneficial way for residents collectively to hold the title to the road and maintain it.

The SDRA’s Management Committee comprises the Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and a number of other members who volunteer their time and who are appointed by members at the Annual General Meeting. All Management Committee members are unpaid.

The SDRA is run on a non-profit basis. The annual subscription is set at a level that allows us to pay current on-going expenses, such as insurance, as well as to act as a sinking fund that spreads the cost of large maintenance bills, such as resurfacing, over a number of years.
